Before you start:
Enrolment and eligibility
Who can study with us?
Our nationally accredited training is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 18 and over. Some courses have specific entry requirements – check the course page for details.
How to enrol
- Submit an Expression of Interest through the course page.
- We’ll contact you to confirm your eligibility and guide you through next steps.
- You’ll complete a Pre-Training Review (PTR) and a short Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment to help us understand your learning needs.
What’s a USI and why do I need one?
Every student needs a Unique Student Identifier (USI) to enrol in nationally recognised training. It’s your personal education number and keeps a record of all your training across Australia.
If you don’t have one, we’ll help you set it up – it’s quick and free.
What support is available?
You’ll be connected with one of our Student Success and Engagement Officers – your go-to person for support, guidance and motivation throughout your course.
Course fees and funding
How much will it cost?
Fees vary depending on your course and funding eligibility. Many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are eligible for Victorian Government-subsidised training under the Skills First program.
Am I eligible for free or subsidised training?
We assess every student individually. If you’re eligible for Skills First funding, you may pay reduced fees – or none at all.

What it’s like to study at Yagilaith Djerring
Block training
Most courses are delivered through block training – a few days of face-to-face learning each month, held at our Collingwood campus or at regional ACCOs.
Hands-on and practical
Expect real-life case studies, role plays, group discussions and workplace-based learning. You won’t just sit and listen – you’ll be part of it.
Support at every step
Our Aboriginal Student Success and Engagement Officers walk with you through the highs and lows of study. You’ll also have access to culturally safe resources, wellbeing support and academic assistance.
What you need to bring
You’ll need basic digital skills (like using email and Word), a willingness to learn, and a commitment to your Community and career goals.
Student responsibilities and expectations
Respect, commitment and cultural safety
We ask all students to show up with integrity and respect – for each other, for staff, and for the cultural space we create together.
Policies you should know
We have clear policies to keep our learning spaces safe and strong. These cover things like:
- Student code of conduct
- Complaints and appeals
- Privacy and wellbeing
- Assessment procedures

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer
Been doing the work already?
If you’ve got skills or experience from Community, work or study – you might be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This can reduce your study time.
Already completed similar units?
You may be able to credit transfer units from other nationally recognised courses you’ve done.
We’ll talk through these options with you during your Pre-Training Review.
