The Diploma of Leadership and Management supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander professionals to step into leadership roles with clarity and purpose. You’ll explore how to guide teams, deliver outcomes, and manage projects in a way that reflects your values and respects the people you lead.
Training focuses on communication, planning and team development, while also introducing key skills in managing risk, finances, resources and workplace culture. You’ll walk away with a nationally recognised qualification and a leadership style that reflects who you are – and what you stand for.
This course is well-suited to those currently leading teams, coordinating programs or stepping into organisational decision-making roles.

Course Details
How you will learn
This course combines classroom learning with real-world experience:
- Face-to-face training (3 days per month)
- Group discussions and peer support
- Leadership scenarios drawn from ACCO contexts
- Practical assessments and reflective learning tasks
Work placement
No work placement is required to complete the Diploma of Leadership and Management.
However, for some assessments you’ll need to complete tasks or demonstrate skills at your workplace.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in Victoria can access the Aboriginal access fee waiver – no tuition fees required.
Travel and accommodation costs may be subsidised through the AbStudy funding program if you’re eligible.

Entry Requirements
Below are the entry requirements for this course:
To enrol, you must:
- be 18 years or older at the time of enrolment
- complete a Learning, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment and Pre-training Review (PTR) to assess your suitability, leadership readiness, and workplace access requirements
- have wide-ranging skills and knowledge about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of living
- have basic digital skills, including Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
You must also be:
- working in, or preparing to step into, a leadership or supervisory role within an ACCO or an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community service setting.
- able to access an appropriate workplace to complete practical assessments.
If you’ve completed similar units or gained relevant skills through work or study, you may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Credit Transfer. Our team can guide you through this process during enrolment.
This training is delivered under the Skills First Program and may be free for eligible students.
Eligibility is assessed individually before enrolment, and tuition fees may vary depending on your circumstances.
